Wassily Kandinsky (Russian, 1866-1944) Attributed: Abstract Composition. Tempera on paper, signed with monogram (K), unframed.

Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting one of the first recognized purely abstract works. Kandinsky was a leading member of Der Blaue Reiter, a group of German expressionist artists united in opposition of traditional exhibition venues. One of Der Blaue Reiter's core beliefs was that color and form carry concrete spiritual values that should be consciously considered in the creation of art.
