Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was an Israeli artist known for his portraits of women. A Holocaust survivor, he immigrated to Israel in 1949. Tarkay's artistic journey began with a scholarship to the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem and culminated in his graduation from the Avni Institute of Art in Tel Aviv in 1956. His work, characterized by simple forms, rich colors reminiscent of Toulouse-Lautrec, and sensitive depictions of women, gained international recognition. Tarkay exhibited widely, with his art featured in numerous public and private collections. Despite early hardships, he established himself as a respected artist with a distinctive style in portraying the female figure.
