Born in Panama, Nebraska, Hazel Schwentker painted and studied art in Peru, Nebraska; Scottsdale, Arizona; Jackson, Wyoming; and Orlando, Florida. She was primarily an educator but gave private art lessons in Rapid City, South Dakota from the early 1950s. She exhibited at Black Hills State College in Spearfish and in other South Dakota venues. A collection of her historic watercolors and ink and wash drawings in part of the Dahl Fine Arts Center's permanent collection. Her ink and wash drawings of historic Black Hills area mines are reproduced on note papers sold commercially.
