Wassily Kandinsky (Russian 1866-1934) Attributed: Abstract Composition. Oil on canvas, signed lower left and verso. Marked on reverse by reference numbers label and stamp. This painting is a typical subject of the artist early work. Unframed.

Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting one of the first recognized purely abstract works. Kandinsky was a leading member of Der Blaue Reiter, a group of German expressionist artists united in opposition of traditional exhibition venues. One of Der Blaue Reiter's core beliefs was that color and form carry concrete spiritual values that should be consciously considered in the creation of art.
