Tom Wesselmann (American, 1931 - 2004) Manner of: Study for a Painting. Gouache and pencil on paper dry mounted to foam core, signed lower right, framed; verso has an unverified gallery sticker.

Tom Wesselmann became one of the leading American Pop artists of the 1960s, rejecting abstract expressionism in favor of the classical representations of the nude, still life, and landscape. He created collages and assemblages incorporating everyday objects and advertising ephemera in an effort to make images as powerful as the abstract expressionism he admired. He is perhaps best known for his Great American Nude series with their fat forms and intense colors.

14.5 x 17.5 inches framed; 11 x 14 inches with margins.

Purportedly sold by a Florida Dealer to a private collection; Private collection, Chicago, 2020.

Condition

Very good condition; light surface grime in margins; light surface mark across the sitters face; the frame is scuffed throughout.
