Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) Attributed: Homme Grec Barbu. Pen and ink on paper, mounted to matboard. Signed in ink lower left, framed. This item is accompanied by a document prepared in 1982 by Emile Fine Arts, Paris, France. This is a possible preparatory sketch for the 1961 Picasso etching and drypoint ‘Homme Grec Barbu’

Picasso was the most dominant and influential artist of the first half of the twentieth century. Associated most of all with pioneering Cubism, alongside Georges Braque, he also invented collage and made major contributions to Symbolism and Surrealism.

According to the document, accompanying this lot: this item was given to Michael Roberts by the artist in 1968; Gifted to Emile Fine Arts, 1980; Acquired in a private sale by Tom Martin, Dallas Texas, 1982; Acquired in a private sale by the current owner, a California Gentleman.

Condition

Good condition with signs of age, the paper is toned throughout; moisture stain on the left edge; the corners are slightly rounded.
