Netsuke Rishi Japanese Purse Toggle: Hand carved wood, in the form of Taoist Immortal Rishi (Japanese), Sennin (Chinese). The figure has their mouth open, is holding an open clam, while petting their head, and wears a skirt and cape of leaves. 19th Century. This item is accompanied by a bill of sale.

A netsuke is a miniature sculpture, originating in 17th century Japan. Initially a simply-carved button fastener on the cords of an inro box, netsuke later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship.
