Mae Benett Brown (American, 1887-1973): Floral Still Life. Oil on canvas, framed. Signed lower right. In 1921 Mae Benett Brown immigrated to the United States and settled in Boston. For six years she directed the Little Theater Group and also illustrated the Tercentenary History of Boston. By the 1920s she was painting on the North Shore and became a member of the North Shore and Rockport Art Associations. She painted many shore scenes and landscapes, but specialized in bright floral motifs. She held solo shows at the Boston City Club, the Boston Public Library and the Rockport Art Association.
