Kazuo Shiraga was a prominent Japanese artist associated with the Gutai group, known for their avant-garde and experimental approach to art. Shiraga's distinctive contribution to the art world lies in his unique method of creating 'performance paintings', using them to manipulate thick layers of paint on canvas.

Great condition; minor surface grime visible in the creases of the heavily painted areas; scattered areas of paint loss (see photos) the canvas is toned verso.
