J. M. W. Turner (British, 1775 - 1851): The Grand Canal, Venice. This item is a vintage collotype art print of J.M.W. Turner's painting of "The Grand Canal, Venice." The print was copyrighted in 1968 by the Hyde Collection and was printed on Finch Opaque Cover by the Triton Press in New York City.
The Triton Press was a short run collotype printer that closed down around 1985. An internet source (a printer who purchased the Triton Press machinery after they closed) writes that in his opinion, the Triton Press was "the highest quality commercial collotype operation in US history. They did extremely high quality limited edition work for the New York Graphic Society and artists including John Audubon, Basil Ede, Norman Rockwell, Andrew Wyeth, and many others.
J. M. W. Turner (1775 - 1851) was active in United Kingdom, England, he is known for Romantic landscape, skyscape and seascape painting.

The print measures 23 1/2 by 29 inches border to border and will be shipped rolled up in a cardboard tube.

Private collection, Boston.

The print is not faded or stained, and does not appear to have ever been framed or matted, it was stored rolled in a tube. The margins are somewhat tattered with light folds and creases. The bottom corners are especially folded and dented; upper left corner has a small rip. These areas can easily be covered if the print is matted or framed.

NOTE: If documentation is not listed, the lot is sold without documents.
