Henri Emile Benoit Matisse (French, 1869-1954) and Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973): Deux Femmes. Two framed lithographs. One print is dated in plate (9.8.52. XXII).

Matisse was known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is accepted as one of the most influential modern painters and crowned as the leader of Fauvism, a 20th century movement that favored a painterly style and bold, expressive use of color over the representational or naturalistic values of the Impressionist movement before.

Picasso was the most dominant and influential artist of the first half of the twentieth century. Associated most of all with pioneering Cubism, alongside Georges Braque, he also invented collage and made major contributions to Symbolism and Surrealism.

7.5 x 9.5 inches framed; 3 x 4.25 inches sight, each.

North Carolina Estate, USA.

Condition

Both prints are in excellent condition; minor scuffs on the frames.
