Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954) Manner of: Self Portrait with Pearl Earring, 1949. Oil on masonite, framed, signed and dated upper left, several decorative labels verso.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter best known for her uncompromising and brilliantly colored self-portraits that deal with such themes as identity, the human body, and death. Although she denied the connection, she is often identified as a Surrealist. In addition to her work, Kahlo was known for her tumultuous relationship with muralist Diego Rivera.

32.25 x 24.5 inches framed; 27.5 x 20 inches masonite.

Private collection, South America.

Condition

Very good condition; three small repairs, (one on the sitter's neck line, the other two on the background); several small surface scratches resulting in paint loss; light surface grime in the bottom half of the painting; masonite has a slight convex warp.
