Erik G. Haupt (German, 1891-1984): Corporate K-9 (Woof of Wall Street). Oil on canvas, signed lower left, framed.

Haupt was born in Kassel, Germany, and attended the Maryland Institute (now Maryland Institute College of Art). Following graduation, he studied with Carl von Marr at the Akademie der Bildenden Kunst, Munich; with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian, Paris; and with Richard Miller at the Academie Colarossi, Paris. Haupt returned to Baltimore in 1915, and soon thereafter began teaching at the Maryland Institute, continuing through the mid-1920s. He later moved to New York City, where he maintained a studio for over 50 years. Although he painted figurative works and outdoor scenes, his primary focus was portraiture. His portraits are included in the collections of the United States Supreme Court, the Sons of the American Revolution, Yale University, and Randolph-Macon College. He also exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, and the Corcoran Gallery Biennial.

Fair condition with a good amount of paint loss at the bottom section; three areas of pressure marks resulting in craquelure; impression from stretcher bar visible from the front of the canvas.
