Emil Filla (Czech, 1882-1953) Manner Of: Cubist Still Life with Cherries, Oil on canvas, signed in the center on the bottle. Framed.
Czech artist Emil Filla aligned himself with a variety of movements, including fauvism, expressionism, and cubism. As a member of Osma (the group of eight), a collective that drew inspiration from the Paris fauves and maintained a close relationship with the German group Die Brucke, Filla initially painted in an over exaggerated, colorful manner. By 1910, after familiarizing himself with the work of Picasso and Braque, he made the transition to cubism, particularly cubist still lifes. After a split in 1911 with the Manes Union of Fine Arts, a group which promoted Czech Cubism, Filla founded the cubist-oriented group, The Group of Visual artists and transitioned from cubist painting to cubist sculpture. By 1920 he rejoined the Manes, with whom he began to further experiment with cubism.

28 x 29.5 inches framed.

Private collection, New England, USA.
