Polak's work combines a sophisticated use of color with an Expressionist approach to the application of pigment. The surfaces of his paintings on canvas are built-up texturally and exhibit an unusual relief quality that at once catches the eye and affects the colors that he layers (glazes). The effect is one of a shimmering light that plays throughout his warm and inviting landscapes.
