Twombly chose to live in Rome for most of his life, gaining inspiration from European history, Greek and Roman mythology, and his immediate surroundings. His coined style consists of graffiti-like scribbles and scratches that at first appear to be hasty and meaningless, but are actually very emotional and deliberate, suggesting subtle narratives and ideas.
