Paul Gauguin (French, 1084-1903) After: Femme cueillant des fruits et Oviri (Woman gathering fruit and the Savage). Posthumous edition woodcut, printed on tissue thin, Japon paper. Unsigned and undated. Installed in a presentation mat, unframed.

There are six known copies of Femme cueillant des fruits et Oviri, all printed by Gauguin circa 1896-1897.
'Oviri' (the savage) is a term Gauguin used to refer to himself. The elements refer to the original sin, but with Gauguin these carry a broader association with fertility. Gauguin played a major role in the revival of the art of the woodcut.
