After Pablo Picasso: Zinc Etching Plate and Corresponding Print Two Women Looking at a Sculpted Head

After Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973): Two Women Looking at a Sculpted Head (Deux femmes regardant une tete sculptee). Zinc etching plate believed to have been used by The Collectors Guild when the published their "School of Paris" series along with corresponding print. Etching plate is signed, dated in plate lower left in another hand. This plate was lightly coated with removable cilium carbonate powder to better facilitate photographing the work. The print is signed in plate (Paris 21 mars XXXIII) in another hand (See National Gallery of Art Accession Number: 1950.16.108), and again in graphite. The print is accompanied by a document from George Kopel of National Art Guild, 1988.

Picasso was the most dominant and influential artist of the first half of the twentieth century. Associated most of all with pioneering Cubism, alongside Georges Braque, he also invented collage and made major contributions to Symbolism and Surrealism.

plate: 26.8 x 19.4 cm (10 9/16 x 7 5/8 in.) Paper: 14.25 x 11 inches.

 The Collectors Guild, New York: Marcel Vogel, New York; sold in a private sale circa 2004/5 to the current owner, a California Gentleman.

Condition

Plate: Very good condition with regular wear associated with this type of object. Print: Handling on the right side of the paper in margins; light bend/ crease lower and upper right.
