Dogon, Mali. This mask represents Yasigine, the only woman admitted to the Awa male Society. Carved wood rectangular mask, worn cotton cloth attached to cover back pf the dancer's head. Surmounted by a female figure most likely carved separately and attached. Wood, cotton. beads. Evidence of insect damage in the inside and the rim and 33 in H.

This African Tribal Sculpture has been examined by Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy and is approximately 130 years old. A certificate of the examination will accompany the artwork.
